International Zine Month 2021: Week 3

Can you believe that this month is already almost over? I can’t! Here is how I celebrated International Zine Month during the middle of July: Day 11 – International Zine Day! Buy, share, or read zines from a country different than your own. A great category! May I recommend picking up zines by Maranda from Canada, Tukuru from England (by way of Finland), Evelyn from Germany, and the Coin Operated Press from Scotland? Any and all of the titles by these zinesters are great reads! Day 12 – ZineWiki Day! It’s a wiki just for zines! Add to or update listings to the new and improved zinewiki.com Well this prompt was […]

International Zine Month 2021: Week 2

And just like that, we’ve reached the end of the first full week of International Zine Month! The prompts this week were fantastic inspiration, and I’m so excited to share how I celebrated with y’all: Day 4 – AmeriZine Day! Explore marginalized voices in the Americas. This day was a great opportunity to revisit some of my favorite zines, such as Doomed from Alexa Lima’s Ulterior Zines, and issues of Cyclista Zine — titles from both of these projects are featured in my latest Zine Reviews video, but more […]

International Zine Month 2021: Week 1

Happy International Zine Month, y’all! 🌸✂️ International Zine Month is an interactive celebration of all things zines created by Stolen Sharpie Revolution author (and prolific zinester) Alex Wrekk. Each year, they release a great calendar of activities and prompts so you can get involved in the festivities! I love celebrating IZM, and I’m planning on featuring a handful of the prompts here on the blog, as well as on Zine Reviews. Here’s how I responded to the first few prompts: Day 1 – What is a zine? Come up with a concise definition in your own words and share it with others. I tend to stick with “Zines are diy publications […]

New Roots for Refugees Farm Share: Early Summer, Weeks 10 & 11

Oops! I lost track of time, and now we’re already at the end of August. I owe you photos from two weeks worth of produce bags… as well as a recap of my entire experience with the New Roots for Refugees Early Summer Farm Share program. So, let’s get started! During the final weeks of the Early Summer shares, we enjoyed encore appearances from some of my favorite produce picks of the season, including the carrots you see above, as well as crisp kohlrabi, vibrant rainbow chard, and this warm, rustic rainbow of tomatoes: I’ve really grown to appreciate how every bag seems to contain some of the staple products I […]
