Okay 90s kids, this ones for you! Skurt Cobain is Jolie Ruin’s compzine series dedicated to “the best/worst decade” and issue four is a delicious mix of fan art, movie reviews, memories, and musings. Nicole Solomon takes us on a tour of films from the decade about phone sex workers, Renata Pavrey endorses the Goosebumps movie that I was previously pretty reluctant to see (but have since added to the top of my Halloween movie watchlist), and Mark Ostler reminisces on the feral screams of preteen fangirls that landed NSYNC among his top 5 loudest concerts seen. I especially enjoyed the back-to-back punch of @noscenezine’s defense of those “sell outs” Green Day, and tatennie’s melodic prose piece “90s Bleed” — a rhythmic tribute to “a time when couches were ugly and walls were pink, when tv noise was warm and whelming, when women wore brown lipstick and started caring more about caring less.” Hey Jolie, any plans for an issue five? I hope so!
