When photojournalist Sean Rayford heard that his favorite local music venue — the New Brookland Tavern in West Columbia, South Carolina — was due to close, he got to work documenting as many of the venue’s final shows as he could. The result is “For the Record” , a glossy, full-bleed zine that captures the energy and excitement of live music. Ryan’s photography is so successful in capturing the vibe and presence of what a damn good show feels like: the feeling of sound made physical — music loud you can feel it in your bones — and the joy and community of being in a pit, surrounded by other music lovers. The NBT is a 350-cap venue, and so many of these photos highlight the intimacy of the space, zeroing in on a single face or two in the crowd, a raised fist or smiling crowdsurfer, folks that are living in the moment and having the time of their lives, captured in their bliss, memories committed in ink. The doors may have closed on the NBT, but “For the Record” remains, a time capsule of the venue’s final days. 📓 Details: 60 pages, full color💌 : $22.50 via shop 🔗 : website • instagram |
