Chaotic Baby #s 1 + 2 are total perzine catnip. If you, like me, are a fan of high-contrast b&w collage, typewriter fonts, witchy vibes, star doodles, and ruminations on mental health and how alternative music has shaped yr psyche, then Midnight Zines’ work is gonna be right up your alley, too. These mini-zines are brimful at 40+ pages each, and while Alex ruminates in issue 2 that her use of the mini zine format is connected to a fear of taking up space, I absolutely love that these zines are pocket-sized. I tossed both in my purse and read them on lunchbreak excursions to the park and it felt a little bit like having a deep conversation with an overseas friend. I’m so, so glad that the zine community on instagram connected me to Alex, and that we are now pen pals (!) because I have big heart-eyes for her whimsical, mystical, heartfelt zines.
