Lady Butter’s “Buttered” is, in their own words, “the cup that holds (all their) artistic pursuits.” Issue one of this glossy, black-and-white art zine features digital collages and drawings, heavy with text. Themes ricochet, a grab bag, but that’s the whole point; rather than try and fit her art into a brand identity or chase expectations, Lady Butter follows her instincts and impulses, creating a collection of images that range from dystopian exhaustion, to whimsy, to perseverance, to care. The zine feels like a portfolio of digital art, a collection of all the musings in Lady Butter’s made visual.
