HAPPY PAPER PLAINS ZINE FEST WEEKEND! I am so excited to be tabling the third-annual Paper Plains Zine Fest in Lawrence, Kansas this Sunday, and wanted to share their official Jammy fanzine with y’all! Jammy is Paper Plains’ anthropomorphic copy machine mascot, and they’ve become a beloved staple of our bi-state zine community. When the PPZF organizers put outta call for fanart, I whipped up a digital collage featuring a zine-y friendship bracelet: a chain made of paper clips spangled with gluestick, scissor, and locket charms… with an illustration of Jammy in the locket, of course! And my fellow KC Zine Con organizers and I came up with our own Jammy backstory: a fable about how both Jammy, as well as KCZC mascot Bernie the Raccoon, gained sentience thanks to a witchy spellbook left sigil-side down on Jammy’s copy machine scan bed. KCZC Organizers Nash and Nat wrote and illustrated our fable, and both that tale as well as my friendship bracelet collage made it into the final fanzine, along with delightful illustrations, a comix, and a zine-themed crossword puzzle. You can pick up copies of the fanzine, as well as swing by the catmothcrow table, at the Vendor Fair on Sunday, September 1st from 11am to 5pm at Van Go on New Jersey st. See you there!
