I think I’ve mentioned here before that I practice witchcraft; connecting with other witchy zinesters is one of my very favorite things about being a part of this community. It’s always a treat when I find a zine about magical practices in my PO Box, and so I was delighted to rip open the envelope from D. Crawley and see “A Guide to Cord Cutting”.

Cord-cutting refers to a ritual that helps you sever unwanted “spiritual, emotional, financial, and other bonds” that connect you to people, situations, or places. The zine does a great job of explaining the practice — providing clear instruction on creating the proper environment for spell-casting and the “how-to”s of process, intention setting, and suggested ingredients. It also breaks down what cord-cutting can and cannot do; for instance, it isn’t a shortcut to healing emotional traumas, but it can help you establish your own boundaries or break an unhealthy pattern. I found the zine to be a really perfect introduction to this form of energy work, and D is a terrific teacher: her writing is straightforward, but peppered with enchanting reminders of our own magic and power. My absolute favorite quote was from the outro: “whether we believe in magic or are skeptics, our humanity demands liberation.” Words to live by.
